So what's actually on the doorstep?

Written by Lucy

Quite a lot, it turns out. Forestry England manages over 1,500 biodiverse forests across the country. Your cabin is basically a base camp to all of it.

Step outside early enough and you might catch roe deer drifting between the trees, a badger finishing its night shift, or rare birds announcing themselves overhead. Depending on where you're staying, that could mean red squirrels, ospreys, otters, orchids in the clearings, or a bat species you've never heard of doing laps above your head at dusk.

Every forest is different. All of them are worth paying attention to, and preserving.

You can do as little or as much as you want out here. Sit on the deck and stare at trees all day - genuinely a valid use of your time. Or step out and explore: walking and cycling trails that leave straight from your door. Dalby Forest in North Yorkshire, for example, has 13 walking and cycling trails across 8,500 acres on the edge of the North York Moors, a lake with boardwalks, and skies dark enough to see the Milky Way without squinting.

When you book we’ll send you a Field Guide with all of the information about what to explore, and we’ll also kit out your cabin with some physical trail maps so you can totally switch off.
